Wait...what?
South Africa?
When did that happen?
Well, to be honest, it's been in the works for about a year, but it was only confirmed about ten days ago that I am actually going to South Africa.
Let's just say that God works in funny/mysterious ways, and I never thought that I would be going to SA at all, let alone for 2+ years. Looking back at my life, it is obvious that this is where God has clearly been leading me for quite some time. It just took me a little bit longer to catch on. If you are truly curious to hear about the whole story, let me know. And we'll go for coffee (if you are in the same general area as me...if not, we'll work something else out) so I can share just how great God is and what He has been doing in my life. And maybe eventually I'll just get around to posting it here on this blog.
So, you ask, what will I be doing in South Africa?
I will be doing my dream job. Seriously. I will be working with women doing friendship evangelism. Which basically means that I get to hang out with women and drink coffee/tea and eat with them. And go to Bible studies. Basically just share life with them, build relationships, and show them why I love Jesus.
At the same time, I will also be receiving mentorship and training in how to reach out to neighbours with different faiths and learning how to disciple them. Which I am super excited for.
Another question that I seem to get a lot lately is where exactly I am going.
Well, South Africa is at the southern end of Africa. I will specifically be in Durban, which is on the east side right along the Indian Ocean.
What language will I be learning?
Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but at this point I won't be learning any language right away. There are actually eleven national languages in South Africa, but English is well understood in the area that I am in. I may eventually learn another language, depending on my ministry, but at this point, it isn't necessary.
So that is a basic summary of what I will be doing in South Africa. If you have any more questions, let me know, and I'll do my best to answer them!
